Home heating oil is made of, well, oil. In recent years, heating oil has been blended with biodiesel (much of which is made up of waste soybean oil) to create a cleaner, domestically produced energy resource that’s virtually sulfur free. Natural gas, on the other hand, is comprised almost exclusively of methane — an extremely potent greenhouse gas that contributes significantly to global warming. Natural gas is processed for sale and consumption. Natural gas withdrawn from natural gas or crude oil wells is called wet natural gas because, along with methane, it usually contains NGL—ethane, propane, butanes, and pentanes—and water vapor. Wellhead natural gas may also contain nonhydrocarbons such as sulfur, helium, nitrogen, hydrogen sulfide, and carbon dioxide, most of which must be Like oil, natural gas is a product of decomposed organic matter, typically from ancient marine microorganisms, deposited over the past 550 million years. This organic material mixed with mud, silt, and sand on the sea floor, gradually becoming buried over time. Oil trades in barrels, while natural gas trades in millions of Btu's (British thermal units or MMBtu). The ratio translates to 10 MMBtus of natural gas per one barrel of oil. If the price of crude oil is $40 per barrel, a price of around $4 per MMBtu for natural gas would be implied (close to pre-2009 norms). Natural gas extracted from oil wells is called casinghead gas (whether or not truly produced up the annulus and through a casinghead outlet) or associated gas. The natural gas industry is extracting an increasing quantity of gas from challenging resource types : sour gas, tight gas, shale gas, and coalbed methane.

How is natural gas formed? What are methane hydrates? 7 Jan 2015 Deep in the Earth, oil and natural gas are formed from organic matter from dead plants and animals. These hydrocarbons take millions of years  Oil and natural gas are organic fossil fuels, formed from the remains of plants and animals trapped in and between layers of fine-grained sediment from ancient

15 Dec 2014 Making motor oil from natural gas may sound like magic. It certainly is not easy and is a highly complex process with many stages. But it can be

19 Sep 2019 By breaking the hydrocarbons in oil and natural gas into simpler compounds and then assembling those building blocks, scientists long ago  6 Jul 2018 Many of the arguments in support of natural gas are based on Proponents like to portray the fuel as a cuddlier cousin to coal and oil when it comes When people make this argument, they're (mostly) referring to one thing  19 Feb 2020 Methane gas leaks from the ground both naturally and from coal, oil, and In many cases they are replaced by natural gas (which is made up  31 Jan 2020 Where does the United Kingdom (UK) get its oil and gas from? In 2017, the UK imported crude oil from around 17 countries. One source stood  EPA's Voluntary Methane Programs for the Oil and Natural Gas Industry commitments Partners are making through the Methane Challenge Program Natural gas, colorless highly flammable gaseous hydrocarbon consisting primarily It is a type of petroleum that commonly occurs in association with crude oil. The first discoveries of natural gas seeps were made in Iran between 6000 and

4 Aug 2019 This, according to the team, would make gas-derived fuel more economical to produce. The potential of natural gas as a replacement for gasoline

PurePlus Technology is a patented, revolutionary process that converts pure natural gas into the first-of-its-kind, high quality full synthetic base oil. The Pennzoil Platinum line of products made with PurePlus Technology is the first major development in motor oil in more than 40 years. Crude oil is a fossil fuel, and it exists in liquid form in underground pools or reservoirs, in tiny spaces within sedimentary rocks, and near the surface in tar (or oil) sands. Petroleum products are fuels made from crude oil and other hydrocarbons contained in natural gas. Petroleum products can also be made from coal, natural gas, and biomass. Natural gas withdrawn from natural gas or crude oil wells is called wet natural gas because, along with methane, it usually contains NGL—ethane, propane, butanes, and pentanes—and water vapor. Wellhead natural gas may also contain nonhydrocarbons such as sulfur, helium, nitrogen, hydrogen sulfide, and carbon dioxide, most of which must be removed from natural gas before it is sold to consumers. Think of it this way, if the price of crude oil is $40 per barrel that would imply a historical norm (pre-2009) of around $4 per mmbtu for natural gas. Natural gas is also very clean and essentially free of many of the contaminants found in crude oil. When you start with pure natural gas, you end up with a base oil that is purer than a base oil made from crude oil. We call this PurePlus ® base oil, and the process by which we create this pure base oil is called PurePlus ® Technology. The revolutionary process of taking natural gas to build the exact motor oils we want is the biggest breakthrough in synthetic oils in 40 years.
